666!
Let me start off by saying that this was by far the most ambitious party we've ever attempted, and we couldn't have pulled it off without the help of a dozen or so co-conspirators. From the artists who created the photo cut-outs to the ladies and gentlemen who manned the carnival booths to the staff who helped us get the club ready, a great big "thank you" to all. Please see the bottom of this page for shout-outs by name.
So, we set out to celebrate 06/06/06 with a rock-'em sock-'em party. The theme was "good vs. evil", and we asked everyone to come dressed as an angel or a devil. We set up the outdoor courtyard to resemble a carnival midway, complete with carnival booths. On the "good" side of the aisle was the kissing both, on the "evil" side was the spanking booth. All of the proceeds from the booths were donated to charity, how cool is that? (Unfortunately I'm not allowed to mention the name of the charity here since they don't want to be associated with such a scandalous event, but trust me the money went to a very good cause). Also along the aisle were carnival-style photo cutouts, the kind where you stand behind the cutout and someone takes your picture. These were custom-made for the event by local artists Thary Kok, Chris Pallace and Gil Merritt. Toward the end of the aisle was the "Wheel of Misfortune" gambling booth, equipped with a custom-designed gaming wheel and manned by the Gil-Monster who created games of chance on-the-fly throughout the evening and doled out a huge selection of light-up/wind-up toys, devil ducks, bags 'o candy, artwork, drinks, DJ requests and even cash in exchange for quarters. At the head of the aisle was a 16-foot-tall fire-breathing projection screen displaying several hours of video that was custom-made for the event. Indoors, we set up a dance floor in the area that normally serves as the entryway and chillout room for the club, and tricked it out with another projection screen, piles of TV's, intelligent lighting, a kickin' sound system and a DJ/VJ booth. Finally, we lit the entire place with red and yellow floodlights.
Many thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate, here's a look back at 06/06/06!

06/06/06: Event Photos
Six weeks to plan it, six days to set it up, six hours to enjoy it. Now *that* was a hell of a party! Here's the night in review, as seen through M.A.'s lens.

06/05/06: Behind The Scenes
Caution: artists, carpenters, packers and movers at work! Here's how we filled the courtyard with all that cool stuff.

06/07/06: It's Over!
Thanks for a REALLY great turnout; see you again in 2012!

Crowd-Cam Video
Here's some random footage from M.A.'s pocket snapper and my Panasonic DV cam. Yeah, it's dark and grainy, and the audio's as ghetto as it gets, but I think it manages to capture the flavor of the evening really well.

Ambient Video
One of the things we really, really wanted to do for this event was to have lots of big, firey ambient video playing in the courtyard. I figured that creating the video would be easy and setting up the 16-foot-high projector screen would be the hard part. Well, I was half right, as that screen *did* turn out to be a really excellent boat sail in the thunderstorm winds that were brewing that afternoon, and we ended up having to tie it down and sandbag it after it actually became airborne at one point. But the video ended up being a bitch as well, because the stock video footage DVD of "things on fire" that I ordered on eBay finally showed up 3 days *after* the event. Sensing impending screwage the weekend before the party, M.A. & I gathered up the video camera, the dog and a pile of wood and headed out to the country for a good-old-fashioned satanic bonfire. Terri and Jason joined us with a case of beer, and we sat around shooting the shit (and the fire) until the sun came up. So now you know where the "things on fire" video came from. Depending on how big a geek you are, you may also want to know that the special effects were created in Adobe After Effects, composited in Microcyb DreamRender and the final product was edited and rendered in Sony Vegas. Anyhow, here's some of the stuff that was up on the big screen at the event, and you'll hear some of the afore-mentioned shit-shooting in the background.

Artwork
We collected quite a pile of still artwork for this event, from the banners over the carnival booths to the gaming wheel to the posters that decorated the courtyard, and even the "his" and "hers" signs on the bathrooms. If you missed it that night, here's another look.

Music
Here's the playlist. We were going for an oldskool-rave sort of vibe for the first half of the evening, so you'll see a lot of vintage early-90's stuff up front. After that was a block of songs about angels and devils, and then my usual "what the hell are they playing *that* for?" mash-up of metal/electroclash/goth/etc.

Thank You!
Again, we couldn't have pulled this event off without help from lots of people. Here they are!
The Gil Monster: He signed up to do a photo cutout and run the game wheel, then spent his entire day off carting lumber, sawing wood, assembling cutouts, raising the projection screen (twice!) and a bunch of other stuff. And he was awesome on the game wheel, wasn't he? Gil is the creator of AMPUTHEATRE, the world's goriest board game. Go visit him at amputheatre.com
Chris: Made the uber-cool Incubus and Succubus photo cutouts and even loaded 'em into the truck for us. Chris is a badass artist, go check out his stuff at chrispallace.com
Kevin: Made those cool little cutout demons that were perched on the water fountain. Kevin's also an author, go buy his latest book right now.
Thary: Gets the award for creating the naughtiest photo cutout of the evening, and who would have expected anything less? Thary's an actress as well as an artist, you need to own a copy of 12 Inches of Dangling Fury. And then you need to watch Killing Miranda's Disposable music video.
Kris: PICOKASB (Person In Charge Of Kissing And Spanking Booths). Kris is a big-time reporter and currently writes for the Canandaigua Messenger, go visit her here.
Eric, Jace, Terri & Bianca: Doled out the heavenly kisses in the kissing booth.
Russell & Thary: Delivered the devilish spanks in the spanking booth.
Patty: Poured the drinks, cleaned out the courtyard fountain (yikes!) & put the roof over our heads.
Sean: Helped us set it up & clean it up.
Jeff: Kept us safe from ourselves.
Dave: Let us in the door.
M.A.: Planned the event, made the stuff, drove it there, set it up, took the pictures, broke it down, carted it away. She's got a MySpace page, I'll give you a dollar if you can find it.
