I'm currently working on a remix project I call "RE[TRO]SPECT". Initially, my concept was to create a series of hour-long video mix-tapes built around modern
covers or remixes of easily-recognizable "older" (60's/70's/80's/90's) songs, with each track manipulated to feature the original artist in the audio,
video or both. Well, there turned out to be a mad amount of audio and video production involved, everything from creating my own remixes from scratch to
creating videos for audio tracks that don't have them to remixing existing videos, and after breathing/sleeping/eating/going to the bathroom with the musical
past for the better part of a year, I realized I'd amassed a completely danceable collection of tracks that would 'way more than fill a 4-hour DJ set.
And then... those tracks wanted to be set loose on a dancefloor. Ok, time for "Plan B". I've greatly enjoyed playing short RE[TRO]SPECT sets at my weekly
AngstLAB event, but really, it's not "angsty" enough for that venue, and I'm driving some of my loyal crowd to consume unhealthy quantities of Rolaids. So
I find myself at a crossroads, and I think it's time to take RE[TRO]SPECT: The Event on the road where it can get full night's worth of exposure while I
continue to ready Volume 1 of RE[TRO]SPECT: The Mix for pitching to a record label. That last bit is likely to be a huge challenge given the amount of audio
and video sample clearing that will be involved, but then again, everyone I've played these for so far has gone "Wow! Where can I get that?", so I've got to
believe there is hope. Wish me luck! And in the meantime, I hope you enjoy some of my favorite tracks (so far...) from the
